Indulgence Decree Translation

Prot N 1365-21/1

The Apostolic Penitentiary, in order to increase the religion of the faithful and the salvation of souls, by virtue of the very special faculties given to it by His Holiness in Christ, our Father and Lord, Francis, by Divine Providence Pope, and in response to the recent petition of Revered Mother Mary McGreevy, the Superior General of the Institute of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Institute, kindly grants from the

heavenly treasuries of the Church a Plenary Indulgence under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intention of the Holy Father), from the first day of September. 2023 until the first day of September 2024, to be gained by all the Sisters and by all the faithful of Christ who are truly moved by penance and

charity; the indulgence may also be applied by way of suffrage to the faithful souls in purgatory.

To gain the plenary indulgence, as pilgrims who devoutly take part in the rites of the jubilee

celebrations, they must visit either at the Motherhouse chapel or whatever chapel is thoughtfully chosen by the Institute, and there take part in the jubilee rites, or at least, for a reasonable period of time, engage in pious

reflections, concluding with a recitation of the Creed, the Our Father, and petitions to the Blessed Virgin Mary (e.g. the Hail Mary).

The elderly, sick people, and those unable for a serious reason to leave their homes can equally gain the Plenary Indulgence if they have a detestation for every kind of sin and have the intention of fulfilling as soon as possible the three customary conditions (listed above) and spiritually join themselves to the jubilee celebration by offering their prayers and sufferings or the inconveniences of their personal lives to the mercy of God.

This Penitentiary earnestly asks that priests endowed with appropriate faculties for Confession offer

with a prompt and generous spirit the celebration of penance to those who approach the Divine Forgiveness by availing themselves of the Keys of the Church, so that they might experience this pastoral charity more easily.

All of the above will be considered valid for the entire jubilee of the

Religious Sisters of Mercy, notwithstanding anything whatsoever to the contrary.

Given at Rome from the Office of the Apostolic Penitentiary, August 23, 2022
