"We Christians believe in the power of the Spirit to convert and change persons away from evil to good; from fear and uncertainty to faith and hope. Our task is to be open to the Spirit, to allow the God of surprises to act through us. That is one of the gifts that those in religious life make visible to us. Whatever the situation, the responsibility of the religious woman or man is to pray in faith for an openness of heart, for a willingness to take the necessary step of conversion daily. The religious, willingly engaged in the evangelical life, know that if they take God's hand, He will do the rest. Trust is the key. God will not fail us. The commitment of God towards each of us, made visible in the total self-gift of Christ, provokes from all religious the public witness of the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. This is the contribution of religious, service to God and humanity, which the world longs for and needs.
